What is an asphalt fibre dosing system?
A fibre dosing system stores fibre granules or other dry additives, weighs the amount needed for each batch and blows or conveys it into the mixer at the right moment of the mixing cycle. It is linked to the plant control system so the dose follows the recipe automatically.
Why add fibres to asphalt?
Fibres stabilise mixes that are rich in bitumen. In stone mastic asphalt (SMA), cellulose fibre, commonly around 0.3% of the mix weight, stops the binder from draining off the stone during storage, transport and laying. Other fibres and additives are used to improve resistance to cracking and rutting. Accurate dosing matters: too little fibre allows drain-down, too much wastes material.
Main parts
Storage hopper or bag station
Holds fibre granules or additives near the mixer.
Weighing unit
Weighs the dose for each batch.
Feeder
Pneumatic blower or screw that delivers the dose to the mixer.
Control integration
Recipe-linked dosing and records in the plant software.

Questions buyers ask
Why is fibre added to stone mastic asphalt?
SMA has a high bitumen content and a stone skeleton. Fibre holds the binder in place so it does not drain down during storage and transport.
How much fibre goes into SMA?
Cellulose fibre is commonly dosed at around 0.3% of mix weight; the mix design sets the exact rate.
Can a fibre system be added to an existing plant?
Yes. It is installed next to the mixer and connected to the plant controls so the dose follows each recipe.
