What does the hot screen do?
In a batch asphalt plant, the vibrating screen sits at the top of the mixing tower. Hot aggregate from the elevator falls onto several stacked screen decks that vibrate and separate it by size into 4, 5 or 6 fractions, each falling into its own hot bin. Oversize is rejected through a chute. This re-screening after drying is why batch plants hold a tight grading even when stockpiles vary.
How is a hot screen built?
The screen box is fully enclosed and kept under slight suction from the filter fan, so dust does not escape. Unbalanced-mass vibrator motors or an exciter shaft drive the box on rubber or spring mounts. Screen cloths are made of heat-resistant woven wire and are tensioned so they can be changed quickly when wear or a new recipe requires it.
Main parts
Screen box
Enclosed frame holding several decks, with inspection doors.
Screen decks and mesh
Heat-resistant wire cloths, quick to tension and replace.
Vibrating mechanism
Unbalanced motors or exciter shaft producing the screening motion.
Springs or rubber mounts
Isolate vibration from the tower structure.
Oversize and bypass chutes
Remove oversize stone and allow screen bypass for some mixes.

Questions buyers ask
Why do batch asphalt plants re-screen hot aggregate?
Re-screening after drying separates aggregate into accurate size fractions, so each batch can be weighed to the exact grading even when stockpiles vary.
How many decks does an asphalt plant screen have?
Most batch plant screens separate 4, 5 or 6 fractions, including sand, depending on the mixes produced.
How often should screen mesh be replaced?
When wear opens or tears the cloth, or when a new recipe needs different sizes. Regular inspection prevents oversize entering the wrong bin.
