What is a bucket elevator in an asphalt plant?
A bucket elevator lifts bulk material vertically using buckets fixed to an endless chain or belt. A batch asphalt plant normally has two: the hot aggregate elevator, which carries dried stone from the dryer to the screen at the top of the tower, and the filler elevator, which lifts recovered dust and imported filler or cement-like powders to the filler silo and weighing hopper.
Why chain instead of belt?
Hot aggregate leaves the dryer at mixing temperature and is very abrasive, so hot elevators use heavy steel chains and wear-resistant buckets. Belt elevators run more quietly and suit lighter, cooler powders. The casing is enclosed and connected to the filter to keep dust in.

Main parts
Chain or belt
Endless traction element carrying the buckets.
Buckets
Wear-resistant buckets sized to output.
Head and boot sections
Drive at the top, tension and feed point at the bottom.
Drive unit
Geared motor with backstop to prevent reverse running.
Enclosed casing
Dust-tight housing with inspection doors.

Questions buyers ask
What is a hot elevator in an asphalt plant?
It is the bucket elevator that lifts dried, hot aggregate from the dryer outlet to the vibrating screen at the top of the batch tower.
Why does the filler elevator matter?
Filler fills voids in the mix and affects binder demand. The filler elevator lifts recovered and imported filler to a silo so it can be weighed accurately into each batch.
Which elevator parts wear most?
Chains, buckets, sprockets and the boot section wear first. Regular chain tension checks extend their life.
