Why wash aggregate
Clay, silt and organic matter weaken concrete and asphalt. Washing removes them and lets a quarry or gravel pit sell to stricter specifications. The right machine depends on how much clay is present and on the size of the material.
Washing equipment by duty
- Log washer: twin intermeshed shafts scrub heavy and plastic clay from alluvial deposits, quarry face material and recycled aggregate.
- Coarse material washer: paddle screw that scrubs gravel and crushed stone up to 50 mm, with a rising water current that floats away fines and organics.
- Fine material washer: slow screw in a settling tank that cleans and dewaters sand up to 10 mm while keeping valuable fines.
- Compact sand washing system: hydrocyclones and a high-frequency dewatering screen on one skid, cutting at about 75 µm and delivering sand with low moisture.
- Washing screen: a vibrating screen with spray bars that washes and sizes in one step (see vibrating screens).
Water and silt
Washing needs a reliable water supply and a plan for silt. Settling ponds, thickeners or compact water treatment units let most of the water be reused. Ask us to include water treatment in the offer.

Questions buyers ask
Which washer do I need?
Heavy, sticky clay needs a log washer. Gravel and chips with light coatings need a coarse material washer or washing screen. Sand needs a fine material washer or, for the best fines recovery, a compact sand washing system.
How much water does washing use?
It depends on the machine, the feed and the clay content. Most plants recycle water through ponds or a treatment unit; the manufacturer gives water demand in the offer.
